Celebrate Spring with Outdoor Family Lifestyle Portraits
Celebrate Spring with Outdoor Family Lifestyle Portraits
Spring Family Lifestyle Portraits
With the easing of the government restrictions and the arrival of Spring means one thing. It could be a great time to have a family lifestyle portrait session to celebrate our families. Outdoor portraits can be so much fun for the whole family. They are a relaxed way of getting even the most camera-shy members of your family together for a picture.
Why Outdoor Lifestyle Portraits?
My background in sports photography lends itself very well to family lifestyle photography. I tend to use longer lenses than you would normally expect for a portrait photoshoot. This has the added advantage of your family shots being more natural. I work further away capturing much more natural images of your family. This means no cameras in your face which results in no fake smiles.
One of the things I really try to do during any portrait lifestyle session is to make you feel at ease and comfortable in front of the camera. People often feel more comfortable in a large open spaces. Its easier to interact with loved ones without feeling the pressure of a confined studio space. That is why I like to shoot these lifestyle sessions outdoors at various local locations I know really well. The locations all have one thing in common – lots of natural light, great backdrops for a shot and lots of places for the children to have some fun.
Where are the best locations for Outdoor Lifestyle Portraits
Some of my favourite locations at this time of year are Simon’s Wood in Crowthorne. This has some interesting areas which has a mixture of trees and woodland to open spaces. If the light is right the lake can make for a spectacular backdrop. Just across the road you have The Ridges which has great views for s tunning backdrop. The Ridges is perfect for climbing trees and running up and down some hills. What better way to capture that special moment of your child climbing their first tree or running around the woods.
The look of delight in children’s faces having fun always come across in the images afterwards. Other top favourites near Wokingham are Wellington Country Park, Virginia Waters or The Lookout. If you avoid the main walking paths there are some really beautiful spots for natural family photos. Or if you’re an adventurous family you can even bring your bikes. By the way if you have a dog feel free to bring them along too. They are part of the family too and can really add another fun dimension to the shoot.
Ahead of the Family Lifestyle Portrait Session
Prior to the photoshoot I will give you a call for a quick chat to get an idea of what your family enjoys doing together. This helps to find out what you would ideally like to gain from the shoot. On the day of the shoot it can be a good idea to bring snacks. This will help to keep children happy (in cold weather a flask of hot chocolate always goes down well). Bring lots of spare items of clothing, wellies, sunhats etc. If in doubt, bring it along. This also gives you the opportunity for some wardrobe changes!!!!. There will be no pressure on the day for anyone to pose or be at their very best. The idea is just to have as natural and interactive an experience as possible.
At this time of year early morning or late afternoons are normally the best times as they are quiet and have the best light – although timing is up to you. The UK is famous for its unreliability of the weather no matter how hard its planed. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee the weather. So long as it isn’t thunderstorms and lightening we should be good to go. If you don’t fancy it we can always book another day to give it another go.
